Introduction

Lu Leslan is an international music educator and cultural connector with decades of experience across Asia, Europe, and the United States. Her work bridges Eastern and Western musical traditions, using music as a shared language to foster understanding, identity, and belonging across generations.

Her approach is grounded in discipline, empathy, and respect for cultural context — creating learning environments where tradition and innovation coexist naturally.

Education & Experience

Early Foundation

Lu’s musical journey began at an early age, studying piano alongside the sheng, an ancient Chinese bamboo woodwind instrument. Performing traditional music for adult audiences as a child shaped her understanding of music as both expression and cultural bridge — an experience that continues to inform her work today.

This dual foundation in Eastern instruments and Western classical piano led to early recognition and a lifelong commitment to honoring multiple musical traditions in parallel.

International Teaching Experience

Lu’s professional path spans some of the world’s most respected international school environments:

Seoul British School (1990–1994)

Teaching students from over 20 countries, Lu adapted Western curricula for multicultural classrooms, using music as a universal language that honored each student’s background.

Taipei European School (1997–2000)

Returning to her cultural roots, she blended European classical traditions with Asian musical heritage, developing programs that celebrated Taiwan’s cultural diversity and deepened her understanding of identity through music.

United States Programs (2000–Present)

Through special education, private instruction, and community-based learning, Lu has served families from diverse backgrounds — reinforcing her belief that music creates meaningful connections across cultures and generations.

Philosophy

Lu believes music transcends boundaries and serves as a powerful tool for building bridges between communities. Her work honors tradition while embracing innovation, ensuring students see their culture reflected, respected, and celebrated — while remaining open to new perspectives.
